Miguel Herrera will once again cross paths with Cruz Azul, this time as the manager of Atlante. The upcoming match between Potros de Hierro and La Máquina marks their reunion, with Herrera being one of the most formidable adversaries for Cruz Azul during his tenure at América.

Dos títulos arrebatados a La Máquina

The first significant blow came in the 2013 Clausura final. Despite losing the series 2-0 and playing with ten men, América staged an incredible comeback to level the score just before penalties, ultimately winning the championship through penalty shootout.

Years later, in the 2018 Apertura final, Herrera faced Cruz Azul again after a goalless first leg. América triumphed 2-0 in the second match, thanks to Edson Álvarez’s brace, securing their second title against the celestes.

Un historial ampliamente favorable

Herrera's dominance over Cruz Azul wasn't limited to finals. In the 2017 Apertura quarter-finals, América knocked out Cruz Azul based on their better position in the table after a goalless aggregate draw.

Subsequently, in the 2019 Clausura quarter-finals, América again sent Cruz Azul home with a 3-2 win in the aggregate score.

Ahora con Atlante

The landscape is different now as Herrera takes charge of Atlante, a newly promoted team aiming to create an upset at Estadio Azteca. Across the field will be a perfect-starting Cruz Azul looking to maintain its lead and break the pattern that made ‘Piojo’ a nightmare for the celestes over the years.
