This blockage was directly tied to the failed transfer of United States striker Folarin Balogun to Everton, a move that would have created space. Monaco viewed Lira as a talent with a future in top-level European football and described him as an amazing person. However, Scuro clarified there is no obligation for the player or Cruz Azul to wait for a potential future offer from the Monaco club. The midfielder, a Liga MX champion with La Máquina last spring, also had interest from Abu Dhabi's Al-Jazira, but his preference was always to make the jump to Europe.
