The match between Cruz Azul and Atlante played at the Estadio Banorte concluded with a 3-2 loss for La Máquina. However, tensions escalated outside the venue when referees accused police officers of aggression during an altercation.
CONFLICTO FUERA DEL ESTADIO BANORTE
Through footage shared by journalist Alejandra Benítez, it is observed that police mobilization took place on Avenida Circuito Azteca, with the Estadio Azteca in the background. In the video, a vehicle is seen stopped halfway down the street, and security agents are struggling both inside and outside the car with officials wearing the official FMF attire.
During the altercation, one of the assistant referees called for assistance via phone, denouncing violent threats from the uniformed officers:
"He said he would shoot me with his weapon; he was strangling our Uber, he kicked the car and pulled out his pistol", the referee recounted while seeking support during the recorded call.
FMF AND CDMX GOVERNMENT KEEP SILENCE
Meanwhile, central referee Abraham de Jesús Quirarte tried to mediate and identify the group to authorities by shouting:
"We are the match officials".
Although tensions calmed down and the situation did not escalate further, the vehicle in which they were traveling had to be pushed aside by traffic officers to clear the avenue. As of now, the causes that triggered the incident remain unknown.
The Mexican Football Federation has not issued any official statement or stance regarding the alleged aggression reported by its officials.
